Arpana Kala Kendra

The Arpana Kala Kendra
Arpana Kala Kendra, a holistic art center designed to integrate creative practice with environmental harmony. The Kala Kendra is a namesake of the renowned Indian Artist Mrs. Arpana Caur, and is made as a tribute to her inspirational dedication to art, culture and humanitarian works. It is due to her vision and dedication that the Kala Kendra stands tall and proud in the tranquil surroundings of Bodhgama village.
The Kendra offers artists a serene retreat on the outskirts of Patna, where nature itself becomes a collaborator in the artistic process. The landscape is adorned with lush foliage, rare plants, gardens, and an orchard— creating a living canvas that inspires reflection and innovation.
The facility is thoughtfully equipped to support both individual and collective artistic endeavors. It comprises five independent air-conditioned rooms with attached toilets, a conference hall, and a fully functional kitchen. Artists in residency or camp have access to
generous indoor and outdoor working spaces, allowing for uninterrupted engagement with their craft. The Kendra is envisioned not just as a physical space, but as a nurturing ecosystem for creative growth.

A major addition to the Kala Kendra is the newly constructed Downdraft Wood Fire Kiln, completed under the expert guidance of Padmashri Brahmadeo Pandit. Spanning 40 square metres, this specialized kiln is one of the few of its kind in Bihar and is capable of reaching
temperatures up to 1,400°C. It enables the firing of a wide range of terracotta and ceramic works, opening new possibilities for sculptors and ceramic artists working with traditional and experimental forms.
Together, the Kala Kendra and the Downdraft Kiln represent a significant leap in the Foundation’s mission to foster excellence in the arts. By combining infrastructure, natural beauty, and technical sophistication, these spaces offer artists a rare opportunity to immerse
themselves in process, material, and meaning.
The Foundation remains committed to cultivating such environments where art can flourish in dialogue with nature and community.

Workshops, Camps & Charity Events
Arpana Kala Kendra has long served as a dynamic hub for creativity, hosting a wide range of art camps and workshops that bring together established artists, emerging talents, and young learners to explore painting, sculpture, mixed media, and traditional Indian practices alongside contemporary techniques. These gatherings emphasize experiential learning and cultural dialogue, fostering inclusivity and intergenerational exchange while encouraging participants to reflect on the social and ecological role of art. Often culminating in exhibitions or showcases, the workshops transform technical training into collective journeys of experimentation and expression, ensuring that art at the Kendra is celebrated not only as skill but as spirit, and as a shared medium for consciousness and community.

Various art camps and workshops organized at the Arpana Kala Kendra
Charity events at Arpana Kala Kendra are organized with a spirit of service, combining cultural engagement with social upliftment. The Kendra regularly hosts initiatives such as feeding the poor, ensuring that vulnerable communities are cared for with dignity and compassion. Seasonal drives like blanket distribution provide warmth and relief to the rural population during harsh winters, reflecting the center’s commitment to practical support. Alongside these, upskilling camps empower local villagers with new knowledge and vocational training, turning charity into long-term community development.
