Ajit Dubey (born 2 October 1951) is a prominent contemporary Indian artist and printmaker, best known for his contributions to graphic art and his long association with the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda. After graduating in painting and completing a postgraduate degree in printmaking from M.S. University, he went on to head the Department of Graphics at the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in Bengaluru, where he has mentored generations of young artists. Rooted in a rural Uttar Pradesh upbringing, his visual language often draws on Indian mythological imagery, idols, legends, and folklore, which he reinterprets through contemporary printmaking techniques. His works, including powerful charcoal drawings and intricate platographs, have entered important collections such as the Lalit Kala Akademi, affirming his place among leading Indian printmakers.

Over a career spanning more than five decades, Dubey has exhibited widely in India and abroad, with solo shows in Bengaluru and Seoul and participation in major events such as the International Exhibition of Prints in New Delhi, the Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh, the Egyptian International Print Triennale, and multiple editions of the Triennale-India. His practice has evolved alongside the growth of Indian printmaking, and he is frequently cited among significant names associated with the Baroda printmaking movement, alongside contemporaries who helped establish the city as a major center for the medium. Recognized with awards from national and regional exhibitions and a Senior Fellowship from the Government of India, Dubey continues to be active as both artist and educator, contributing to workshops, dialogues, and exhibitions that foreground innovation in printmaking.
